Ten Commandments Hike - May 1st, 2010

It’s the first annual “Ten Commandments Hike”. A 6-mile route will take hikers to ten houses of worship in the Schaumburg area. At each stop, participants will hear a short presentation about that faith and one of God’s Laws. This will be a rare opportunity for Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Venturing and Girl Scouts, to share a learning experience while demonstrating a Scout’s Duty to God.

Sign-in will begin at 8am at St. Matthew Catholic Church Hughes Center, 1001 E. Schaumburg Rd. in Schaumburg. Some participating churches will be Our Saviors United Methodist, St. Peter Lutheran, Bethel Baptist, Summitview Christian, Church of Latter Day Saints and Shree Jalaram Mandur Temple.

This is a troop Spirit event. If you are not on the New Scout Campout, plan to attend this event. More information can be found on the attached flyer.

The OSUMC Boy Scouts are selling flowers on Mother’s Day. Hold off on that purchase from another retailer. Choose high quality flowers obtained from Buschia’s Nursery. Your Mom will delight in seeing you bring her these beautiful flowers.

New Scout Campout

reminder: the New Scout campout is May 1st/2nd.

New scouts and parent, please meet in the OSUMC parking lot at 7am Saturday. Parents, please bring a tent if you have one because we might be a little tight on our supply with a group this large. Eat breakfast before your arrival.

Scouters and Boy Leaders: you have the option to meet 5.30 pm Friday night in the parking lot for an extra night of camping!

I have posted the one sheet in the file cabinet with the weather forecast and the packing list.

Fun Fair - Apr 10, 2010

Troop,

We need your help and unit participation on Sat April 10. With apologies to those who have offered to help, we have not gotten the number of games we would like. We are estimating that there will be at least 100 families from outside scouting attending and we need to put on a good show in our 100th anniversary year. What we need are cub scout families from throughout our district to come to the fun fair and bring activities appropriate to share with young children. Some have offered to help, few have brought activities.

Come at 8:00 AM to set up and get organized. We will be cleaning up by 1:00.

The locations is next to Our Saviors United Methodist Church at the Day Care Center. You can help at the fair and attend the merit badge clinic.

The idea was to invite potential Tigers and even younger children to join a group of our cub scouts to have fun and learn parenting skills. We have a number of groups from our community who have committed to help.

Events can be very simple- Pin the tail on the Donkey, Pack meeting games you already have tried, relay events, "egg" hunts. anything at all. The real important thing to bring is your enthusiasm for scouts.

Adult CPR/AED and First Aid

Maine Township Town Hall 1700 Ballard Road; Park Ridge, IL 8:00 am – 4:30pm

(Please bring knee pads) There will be a break after CPR/AED for lunch.

Course completion requires on time attendance.

Course completion will result in issuance of an Adult CPR/AED Certification Card valid for twelve (12) months and a First Aid Certification Card valid for .three (3) years

Cost for the complete course is $40.00 Cost for CPR only is $30.00 (8:00 am- approx 12:30 pm)

Course Registration is limited. Minimum number of participants is eight, maximum number is 20.

Minimum age requirement is 14 years. Reservations will be made with payment only. No walk-in registration will be accepted

Registration deadline is November 13, 2009

Upcoming Troop 392 events and flyers for Webelos (with attachment)

Troop 392,

We have several upcoming events for Webelos scouts to get to know Troop 392.

Our first event is Webelos Open House, scheduled for Tuesday November 17 at 7:00 pm. The open house features demonstrations of the legendary Potato Cannon, the scouts hobby show and lots of scout made campfire cobbler desserts.

Next we have an afternoon of Bowling on Saturday November 21 at 1:00. And then we have camping at Eagle Cave on December 5-6.

I've attached flyers for all of the upcoming events. All of these events are free for Webelos and their parents as our guests.

Come one, come all. Northwest Suburban Council's Order of the Arrow Lakota Lodge is hosting a One Day of Service event, at Camp Lakota, on Saturday, November 7, and YOU'RE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE!!!!!

This event is open to all Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturers, including our Scoutreach members. All adults are invited to participate as well.

We did it again! We're Troop of the Year!!

We did it again. For the first time ever, the same Troop was named Troop of the year twice in row.

Congratulations to all the Boy scouts, Adult leaders and Volunteers for making this happen.

We won the Troop of the Year award, Larry Bauer was awarded the Committee Chairman of the Year Award, He was also awarded the Order of the Heart. Pack 100's Ralph Dolce was awarded the Pack Committee Chair of the Year Award.

Boy Scout Troop 392 Youth ProtectionTraining

We would like all parents to take the Boy Scout Youth Protection Training Course.

This training is required for all leaders and adults who plan on attending camping trips of more than one night. The fastest way to get the training is to do the online training course. Here is the link: http://olc.scouting.org/info/ypt.html

At the end of the course you should print a copy of the certificate of completion for your record and give one to Meg Corcoran. Trained leaders can have their information automatically transferred to council with their membership number.

We are currently missing some tents. If you have taken a tent home from a campout to clean, there is no need to bring it to a dry cleaners. Just clean it out in your yard or garage and return to the Troop.

First Aid Merit Badge and Spring Camporee

There will be a first aid meritbadge clinic on Feb. 28^th at Our Saviors United Methodist Church hosted by Troop 392 & Dr. Miller and others. We will be opening this up to other Pathfinder Scouts. Space is limited. Sign up will be on first come/first serve basis until it is filled. I anticipate it will start in the morning and end in the afternoon. The first aid meritbadge is required for Eagle. Also, it is required for the Emergency Preparedness Badge which we will teaching the April 17^th-18^th camporee. There may be a second clinic on April 4^th if we can find staff. Please respond if you know a councilor or are willing to help. Please respond to Dr Larry Bauer (ljbill@comcast.net) with the name of scouts who wish to attend and an E-mail or phone number which can be used to contact the scout.

Also, there will be a Spring camporee organization at 6:30 meeting before the Pathfinder roundtable in Feb. 9^that the church of latter day saints on Schaumburg Road. Send a representative if your Troop plans on attending. Our goal is for any boy to attend to be able to earn the Emergency Prepareness Meritbadge if they earn the first aid Meritbadge.

March'08 Cabin Camping Info.

We have scheduled camping at Blackhawk Council’s Canyon Camp at their Jamboree Cabin for March 20, 21, 22, 2009. The cabin holds twenty and tent camping is also allowed. The cost is $200 for the weekend and a $100 refundable clean up deposit. We will receive a “large” bin of firewood as part of our fee. Additional bins are $25, we can bring in all the extra wood we want plus the wood on the ground. The cabin is wood heat and has a wood burning cook stove. Electricity is lights only and water is from an outside well. The area is hilly and heavy woods.

Your car breaks down in the wilderness, 100 miles from the nearest Jewel-Osco, COULD YOU SURVIVE? If you said “No way!” and you want to learn how, come to the Troop 392 Survival Challenge November 7 to 9 at Silver Springs State Fish and Wildlife Area in Yorkville, IL. You will learn shelter building, fire making, foraging, trapping, and other skills. Afterwards, you’ll be able to answer “Way!” to the question – you’ll be a Survivor.
